"You want a place to fight? Fine, we've got something: This old prison complex we've got no use for anymore. We'll even set up locker rooms for you to get ready in. Go wild, have fun, just make sure you do as much damage as possible and just... Get those fingerprints aaaaaall over everything. Just get real incriminating with it." Latest update: Cameras, optimization, "improved" lighting

A TDM map intended for messing around, like a trade map but not just a strange kill farm. Inspired by trade server maps, but hopefully better, tdm_nopenopenope has a fair few secrets to go around. Please let me know via the comment area below if you find any problems or have any feedback. This map also isn't as optimized as it could be, I didn't use area portals because they're a pain in the ass, and I didn't individually go through and set every single out of bounds texture to nodraw, though I did for a lot. So if the map has performance issues, let me know and I'll try to optimize it more, but it just isn't worth it otherwise. I chose the name nopenopenope at random, it was the first thing to come to mind. This isn't necessarily the final version of the map, even excluding minor changes and fixes, but I feel that every feature I had initially planned for the map is in it, and now much more. Average Trade Map Rant: The average trade map is fun, other than trade_plaza and associated. I love all the secrets and the actual wars that go on. But like 2fort, they're terrible maps for serious gameplay. Maps like minecraft_realms or minecraft_neon are the most common (other than trade_plaza, which is the worst popular map in tf2, even worse than Dustbowel). However, these maps are literally just farms for strange kills. You: - Are in a low-gravity environment, so because air-strafing is low enough to mostly prevent bunny-hopping, you jump and you're just a sitting duck, waiting to be shot. Plus, explosions can shoot you into the air easier. - Physically have to jump when they're Minecraft maps because you can't walk up the blocks. - Have to deal with spawns placed directly across and in sight of each-other, with resupply cabinets on standby, plus no spawn doors and the ability to build in spawn, which means you can spawn-camp each-other from inside your own spawns. - Have to deal with sniper decks and ridiculously wide open areas together, which is bad enough, but they also put most of said sniper decks behind spawn barriers in neon. At least in realms, you can teleport up behind the sniper after getting killed once, but you're physically prevented from flanking a tunnel-vision sniper in neon, not by a lack of flank routes, but by the game preventing you from using flank routes which are absolutely there. - Have to deal with areas which are particularly easily navigated for movement classes and nobody else. Sniper doesn't need to move, the entire point of scout is movement, and soldier and demo have rocket jumping. What do you know, these are the most annoying classes on trade servers, and all of them can navigate the gigantic geometry easier. - Have to contend with enclosed areas that are teleported into and have literally one entrance if you're fighting a war of engineers. It happens to be even worse when that area is a credits room which you can build in and which has resupply cabinets at the same time, like on realms. - Have to just put up with the entire map getting messed with by special events, in the case of neon. - And you can't request any changes of the map creators because fuck you. Well guess what? I don't do that shit in any of my maps. The only area which is hard to navigate for most classes, as far as I can tell, is flatgrass. There are three resupply cabinets outside of spawn, two of them are very easily attacked, one of them is not but has a door which can be opened by one sneaky spy to let an entire team in. Almost every secret room has two entrances, that one is more meant to be a secret teleporter exit than anything else, and I'll put a no-build-zone in there if anyone complains. The main hidden room is specifically... Engineered... To ensure that anyone camping in there has to put in actual effort to continue camping in there. The spawns simply either have doors or, in the case of the spawns which are literal holes, have water you can hide from enemy fire in. I have not specifically added sniper decks. The map does not physically require you to jump for almost anything, nor do I think that low ceilings would be friendly to low gravity environments. KNOWN ISSUES: - The spawn exits are still directly across from each-other, so spawncamping is still possible and likely. I hope that, by adding twice as many spawn exits and a second spawnroom, people will be able to get out of spawn just fine if they put actual effort into flanking the enemy. The reason I didn't make the downstairs area more elaborate, like by adding in a literal labyrinth or something, is that (while I'm normally against intentionally adding sightlines and decks for snipers, because they'll find positions to snipe from regardless, so you're not just ensuring there will be one, you're ensuring there will be one more) this map is more enclosed than junction for the most part and flatgrass is out of the way. Sniper literally wouldn't have any other places to do his job otherwise because areas aren't open, they're the opposite, they're actively enclosed. I did add a second way down which circumvents most of the sightline, however. The reason I didn't make the upstairs area more elaborate is that it would require a restructuring of the entire main area of the map, and separating the teams isn't in the spirit of the map. However, there is no "main" exit to spawn, there are five per spawn here, at least three of which will be out of the sight of one person at any given time. Usually, spawncampers are (at most) 5-6 people, which is half of a team on a 24 player server, and this map supports up to 32 players.
