Mercenary Contracts Hire mercenaries to guard your base. The Merchant stocks Guard Posts alongside his rope and torches -- exactly what an expedition consumes. Raise one and a mercenary reports for duty, ready to be handed any weapon and armour you own. They use your gear, properly Mercenaries are real characters under the hood rather than reskinned monsters, so equipment works on them exactly as it works on you. Swords, bows, guns, spellbooks, yoyos, rogue weapons, summoning staves, wings, rocket boots, accessories and armour set bonuses all behave the way they do in your own hands -- including modded ones, with no compatibility patches. Standing orders - Defend the post -- hold the ground around the contract, with an adjustable range shown in the world as you set it. - Bodyguard -- follow you wherever you go, keeping a comfortable distance and using its wings and boots to keep up. Expeditions Pack a mercenary's satchel and send it away. Torches buy ore, rope buys chest finds, healing potions buy enemy drops -- what you pack is the order, and the trip is priced in time. A countdown hangs over the post until it mirrors back home. Expeditions only ever return things this world already has and your progress already permits: ore your pickaxe can break, loot from places you have explored, and drops from creatures you have already killed. Losing one Mercenaries can be killed. Their gear stays on the contract, and a new mercenary can be hired to take it up. Multiplayer Note: It is not extensivly tested, use at own risk. Mercenaries are simulated by the server, so they fight and are fought whether or not the player who hired them is online.
