The Age of Calamitous — a total conversion for your server

The Age of Calamitous (AoC) is a genuine total conversion that bolts a full RPG framework onto Conan Exiles: alliances with unlockable factions and sub-factions, a reputation system, profession guilds, a custom magic system for combat and utility, a rift system for fast travel, hundreds of quests from campaigns to dungeons, a skill system covering every weapon and tool, and an optional battleground system for PvP matches — usable even on PvE/RP servers. Over 378,000 subscribers run AoC to make their server feel different from vanilla. Because it overrides so many core systems, list it near the top of your modlist.txt, and update it promptly after every patch — an outdated build can block the server from starting. Every player needs the same version via Steam Workshop.

Plan the rollout and operation

AoC is not a small add-on; it is the foundation for a separate server season. Prefer a new world, or at minimum a complete copy of the existing save. Decide faction choices, progression, PvP rules, and permitted companion mods before launch. A quick join test is not enough: complete a quest, a fight, a crafting step, and a rift journey on the test instance so core systems and persistence are exercised together.

For a safe rollout, back up the world and server configuration, record the current modlist.txt including order, and start a copy on the exact same game version. Review the boot log for missing packages, then join with a client using the same Workshop list. A useful smoke test covers joining, spawning, one core mod feature, saving, restarting, and joining again. After major game updates, delay the live update until the mod and its dependencies are explicitly compatible. Change only one part of the list per test run; otherwise a crash cannot be traced to a specific entry. Before removal, use a world copy to check for stored items, buildings, thralls, or configuration owned by the mod. Remove its Workshop entry from production only after the save loads cleanly without those assets. This keeps rollback and diagnosis manageable.
