Only install Minecraft plugins in the GSH panel for a compatible server platform and game version. Check the catalog details, restart after installation, and confirm the specific function. A wizard makes configuration easier, but does not replace a permissions or connection test.

Where to find the plugins

Open your server and select the Plugins & Mods area. At the top, depending on what is already installed, you will find the wizards. Below them, you switch between two views:

  • Search plugins searches the catalog and installs new plugins.
  • Installed plugins lists everything that is already on your server.

For games with mods instead of plugins, the buttons are labeled Mods accordingly. The process is the same, but the wizards only exist for Minecraft plugins.

Installing a plugin

Create a backup beforehand, especially on a server that is already being played on. How to do that is explained in Create and restore a server backup.

  1. Click Search plugins and enter the name, for example LuckPerms.
  2. Open the entry. In the details, you check the version before you change anything.
  3. Click Install and wait for the success message.
Install a plugin in the customer panel

The panel helps you avoid mistakes. If a plugin requires other plugins as a mandatory dependency, it shows this and installs them automatically as well. If an entry does not fit your server, a compatibility notice appears before installation, and for known problem cases even the warning Can crash your server. A plugin that is already installed carries the note Already installed.

Don't forget the restart

Minecraft only loads plugins at startup. After installation, the file is already on your server but not yet active. The panel indicates this with a notice showing how many plugins are waiting for a restart. Restart the server when it suits your players; one restart is enough. For some plugins, a link to a matching guide for the first steps additionally appears after successful installation.

Using the wizards

As soon as a supported plugin is on the server, the matching wizard appears at the top. The overview Tools for your installed plugins compiles them automatically from your installed plugins and jumps directly to them. Currently there are, among others:

  • Community basic setup: creates safe basic roles for commonly used plugins and hands individual permissions over to the official LuckPerms editor. The basics are explained in Set up LuckPerms.
  • Protect the world: WorldGuard & WorldEdit: global protection flags, reloading the configuration, and WorldEdit permissions. More on regions in WorldGuard: Create regions and protect the spawn.
  • Quick settings for popular plugins: dedicated interfaces for TAB, TabTPS, and SkinsRestorer.
  • Set up VeinMiner safely: limited, server-friendly settings for VeinMiner 2.x, see also VeinMiner: Mine entire ore veins.
  • Chunky world preparation: pre-generates the spawn region in the background so that new areas lag less while exploring. The background is explained in Chunky: Pre-generate a Minecraft world.
  • Set up Simple Voice Chat: assigns a dedicated UDP port and keeps it in sync with the plugin configuration.

All wizards work with fixed, verified actions instead of freely entered console commands. So you can't type anything wrong; whatever a wizard doesn't offer, you handle as usual via commands or the configuration files.

Managing installed plugins

In the Installed plugins view, you can see what is on the server and can remove plugins again. If the server no longer starts after an installation, this is the first place to look: remove the most recently installed plugin, restart, and check whether the problem disappears. If that isn't enough, you restore the backup from before.

If you later switch to a different Minecraft version, the panel also checks your plugins and lists the incompatible ones individually; more on this in Switch server software and version.

Treat installation and setup as separate checks

After the restart, check whether the plugin was enabled in the startup log and whether its status command responds. Then test only the desired function with a normal role: homes, region protection, or voice connection require different prerequisites. If a wizard is missing, check the plugin variant and loaded version instead of adding a second JAR. Back up the configuration and data source before an update. When removing a plugin, other plugins may depend on it; therefore read the displayed operation and test the next startup. A successful file download only confirms the installation, not yet that everything works together.
