Mod Options (Build 41)
With more than 5.3 million subscribers, Mod Options is one of the most-used Project Zomboid mods around — though it adds no content of its own. It's a framework giving other mod authors a shared in-game menu for exposing configurable settings, so players can tweak options without editing files. Many popular mods, including Weapon Condition Indicator, list it as a dependency. For your server, the key detail is that this build is strictly Build 41 only; a separate release exists for Build 42, so confirm which branch your server runs. Add Workshop ID 2169435993 and Mod ID modoptions to both the WorkshopItems= and Mods= lines in your server config — connecting clients then download the interface automatically.
Tip: Restart the server after updating Mod Options or any dependent mod so every settings menu rebuilds cleanly.
Plan the rollout and operation
Mod Options is Build 41 infrastructure and should sit directly before mods that use its menus. Document those dependencies and open their options with an ordinary client after every update. Change a test value, reconnect, and verify that local and server settings remain correctly separated. Moving to Build 42 requires reviewing the full dependency chain; merely replacing the library name is not enough.
Before changes, back up the save, sandbox configuration, and server INI, and record the Workshop ID, mod ID, game branch, and order. Both lists must contain the same projects in dependency order; a Workshop download alone does not enable the mod. Start a world copy, connect at least two clients, and test the core feature, persistence, death or reconnecting, and a full restart. Review console.txt and the server log for missing files or Lua errors. After Workshop updates, update dependencies together and retain the last working combination. Before removal, clean up additional items, vehicles, clothing, or slots on a copy. When moving between Build 41 and 42, verify every mod individually; a similar name is not proof of compatibility. This protects the live save from incomplete downloads and branch conflicts.
