How much RAM does a Windrose server need?
Windrose runs on Unreal Engine 5 and is one of the heavier titles. The official developer table lists 8 GB RAM for 2 players, 12 GB for 4 players and 16 GB for 10 players. That is why we start at 8 GB and recommend 12 GB for a typical crew.
How many players fit on a Windrose server?
You can set up to 10 players (MaxPlayerCount in ServerDescription.json). The developers recommend a maximum of 8 players per server. For 10 players you should book 16 GB RAM.
How do players connect to the server?
Via Direct Connect: in the game, open Multiplayer and enter your server's IP address and port — both are shown in the dashboard. The invite-code mode with NAT punch-through is disabled on our servers because it requires UPnP on the host. Direct Connect is the reliable option.
Does the Windrose server run on Linux?
The official dedicated server ships as a Windows build only. On our platform it runs under Wine inside a container, just like Sons of the Forest or Icarus. Nothing changes for you: the server installs via SteamCMD, updates itself on start and writes its settings to R5/ServerDescription.json.
How do I get started after ordering?
Your Windrose server is ready to play in about 3 to 5 minutes — the Windows build is only around 5 GB. In the panel you set the server name, player cap and optionally a password (enable password protection and enter the password). Important: client and server must run the same game version; auto-update keeps the server current.
Can I back up my world or move it to a new server?
Yes. Save games live under R5/Saved/SaveProfiles in the server directory and can be downloaded and re-uploaded via the file manager in the dashboard. Before updates and long sessions we recommend a manual backup in addition to the scheduled backups.
