Checked on September 8, 2026. For Minecraft 26.2, NeoForge 26.2.0.81 is the newest build recognized in the official Maven repository. The separate Minecraft 26.1.2 branch stands at 26.1.2.107. Higher upload activity in another branch is not a recommendation to rebuild your modpack onto that branch.

Verified Status

NeoForge publishes several Minecraft branches in parallel. The global Maven field release can therefore point to the most recently uploaded build of an older branch. For a server, what matters instead is the exact prefix of the Minecraft version: 26.2.* for Minecraft 26.2. Minecraft 26.x requires Java 25; additionally, all mods must support the same NeoForge and Minecraft branch.

Which Version Should You Use?

Stick with the branch your modpack explicitly requires. 26.2.0.81 is "latest," but it's not automatically the best production choice for every modpack. If your pack uses 26.1.2, 26.1.2.107 is the comparison point, and 26.2 is not an in-place update.

Safe Update Process

  1. Create a complete backup of your world, configuration, and add-ons.
  2. Note the current version and check the target version of all loaders, mods, plugins, and clients.
  3. Test the update on a copy first and check the startup log, login, and world loading.
  4. Only switch to production afterward, and keep the previous build along with a backup ready for rollback.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Maven release value the recommended version?

No. It can only reflect the most recently uploaded branch. What matters is the Minecraft branch and modpack approval.

Can I switch directly from 26.1.2 to 26.2?

Only if all mods and the modpack support the new branch. Otherwise, treat the switch like a migration and test a copy of your world.
