How long can you blend in? Slow Burn transforms Project Zomboid into a stealth-focused survival experience inspired by Bobby Adair's acclaimed post-apocalyptic novel series. You're infected—but unlike everyone else, the transformation never fully completed. As long as you suppress your human instincts and behave like the infected around you, the dead will accept you as one of their own. Combat is no longer your first option. Survival depends on patience, deception, and knowing exactly when your disguise begins to fail. Keep an eye on the custom Suspicion Moodle to gauge how well your disguise is holding up. Running, fighting, and other obviously human behaviour will give you away. Move slowly, stay quiet, and let the infected believe you belong. Survive long enough, and the infected will once again accept you as one of their own. - Infected Survivor Profession — Immune to zombie bites. - Dynamic Suspicion System — Stay hidden until your cover is blown. - Indoor & Outdoor Awareness — Hiding indoors reduces Suspicion faster. - Line-of-Sight Detection — Walls and objects help conceal suspicious behaviour. - Five Custom Moodles — Instantly display your current cover level. - Environmental Influence — Weather, time of day, and your behaviour all affect detection. - Zombie Escalation — Nearby infected begin hunting you as Suspicion rises. - Whisper Mechanic (Q while crouched) — Lure a nearby zombie toward your position for a controlled, strategic kill. - Smart Ones — A small chance for certain zombies to see through your disguise no matter how you act. - Naked Hordes — Occasional roaming packs of naked zombies led by one of the rare "smart ones." Unlike the rest of the infected, a horde is fully alert and will hunt you down if it spots you — the only safe option is to keep your distance and let it pass. - Naked Zombies — A small percentage of the ordinary population also spawns naked, purely as a cosmetic look — unlike Naked Hordes, these are just as harmless as any other zombie. - Zombie Walk Mode (N) — Shuffle like the infected for a major Suspicion reduction while walking, running, vaulting fences, or climbing through windows. Sprinting still gives you away. - Infected Window Break — While in Zombie Walk Mode, right-click an unbroken window to claw and thump your way through it like one of the dead for far less Suspicion than smashing it normally, at the cost of a chance to cut yourself. Gloves greatly reduce that risk. - Nakedness Discount — Stripping down makes you read as more convincingly infected, reducing Suspicion gain further and stacking with Zombie Walk Mode. - Devour (Z) — Consume a corpse to completely remove Suspicion at the cost of increased fever. - Guts (G) — Smear yourself in blood and gore to reduce Suspicion gain while increasing fever and stress. - Grunt (V) — Groan like the infected to shave a little off your Suspicion, on a cooldown. - Fever System — An optional slow-building survival mechanic requiring medicine and rest to prevent your infection worsening. - Zombie Bleed-Out — A solid hit from a bladed weapon, piercing tool, or firearm can open a wound that bleeds a zombie out over time on top of normal damage, while it keeps coming after you. Wound severity ranges from a minor graze that may clot shut to an always-fatal devastating wound, with your odds improving the more skilled you are with the weapon in hand. A lucky critical strike to the head can even draw blood through a blunt weapon. - Smart Door/Window Opening — The rare "smart ones" chasing you can open an unlocked door or window in their way instead of being stopped by it. - Rebindable Controls — Every custom Slow Burn keybind can be rebound from Options → Controls. You can set Tires, Windows, Doors, Engine, Trunk, and Lights to have their own separate durability, or just let them follow the Global setting. - Tire Auto-Inflation: Keep your tires automatically at maximum air pressure (PSI) so they never deflate. - Battery Saver: Significantly slow down the car's battery drain rate when using the radio, heater, or headlights. - 100% Safe: The battery drain setting ONLY applies to actual Car Batteries attached to the vehicle. A: The durability multiplier applies to every single part of the car, including the windows. However, windows in Zomboid naturally have very low base health (often just 10-20 points). Even if the mod makes them 5x or 10x tougher, the small amount of damage that gets through from constant zombie banging will eventually shatter them. They are much stronger now, but they are not invincible (unless you pick the "Unbreakable" option). Q: Why does my car still take damage when crashing into trees or buildings? A: High-speed impacts against static objects deal massive amounts of damage all at once. The mod reduces this damage significantly based on your chosen multiplier, but it doesn't completely erase it. The 2x, 5x, and 10x options make your car much tougher, but it still behaves like a realistic car. DISCLAIMER & FEEDBACK I created this mod out of the shared frustration we all experience in Project Zomboid: cars feeling like they are made of paper and breaking down far too easily. The goal is simple — to make our vehicles significantly tougher and more durable than default vanilla Zomboid!
