Mojang regularly publishes snapshots for the upcoming Minecraft 1.22 version. Here's an overview of the features so far:
Expected New Features
- New biomes: Expanded terrain generation

- Mob updates: Improvements to existing mobs
- Redstone additions: New options for technical players
- Performance: Further improved chunk generation
For Server Admins
- Paper/Spigot: Support usually arrives 1-2 weeks after release
- Plugins: Most plugins stay compatible between minor versions
- Worlds: Create a backup before upgrading!
