The Ironwood was a limited run series using old decommissioned R-29s in an effort to breathe new life into the submarines. Intended to fill the role as a long range exploration vessel, the Ironwood sacrifices cargo space for more multi-purpose features such as a shuttle bay and a full fabrication suite. Unfortunately, overhauling old submarines came with heavy unforseen costs, and thus the Ironwood disappeared from the market not long after it appeared.

Original mod by the magnificent Mannatu. I don't deserve any of the clout for this. A friend just had it on a laptop that hadn't been online in a few weeks. I'm not good enough at coding to maintain her work, so eventually the wheels will fall off. For the uninitiated, the purpose of this mod is to make husk removal require surgery (start surgery, saw the ribs, scalpel repeatedly, hemostat around <10%, check yourself for husk). Paired with NT Surgery, it makes for tense moments when you have to get back to the sub to remove the parasite rather than just taking 1-2 pills (which have 0 downside other than their cost). Barotrauma is by and large my favorite game, and that's primarily because of Neurotrauma. I wish Mannatu well, wherever she is. Please don't ask me to fix or maintain this. Someone else take up the torch, I beg you.

This is it, Barsuk junkies. Your next big hit. Wish you could upgrade your Barsuk and see it evolve throughout your playthrough? This might be THE ONE. A package of Barsuk upgrades with silly names that progressively add new things to do aboard (and externally.) with new machines, gun and later, shuttles. Enjoy time in the sea with an engine upgrade, new fabricators upstairs, and more suit storage. Extra guns and better ballast will help push you through the unknown. Later, upgrade again and gain all the strength of an independently capable vessel as your shuttle; the Flying Fish. Send your away team to deal with tight nests and mining missions while the main ship does more important things. (ie Get the captain to the next outpost before captain's poker night starts. Don't be late.) Even LATER, gain the joy of having TWO separate shuttles to keep track of. Send the salvage team to wrecks to scrap it all in the H.O.G. (Heavy Ocean Gatherer). It only has a coil for defense, so RUN, PIGGY, RUN! back to the ship as soon as you can. Facepalm as the crew connects shuttles together because they can. Try to remember how many C's are in the name of your current ship. The possibilities here are endless (Unless you die).

The ship mid-top has been expanded to fit a research station. Vanilla-like and campaign friendly: • All shell/wall pieces, items, and weapons use vanilla settings. • All containers are set to AutoFill, so the initial inventory follows campaign setting. • Agility slightly better than vanilla submarines. Of course, to take advantage of this feature, the captain needs to be decently experienced. Easy to operate: • Small, but has all the crafting facilities, including a research station. • Simple interior design language, easy to recognize and interact with. • Some turrets can be controlled from the command room. • Ballast pumps can be manually controlled. • Bot-proof easy damage control. Gameplay Tips: • If the fuel rods are the uranium type (green), using two at a time works better. • In case of ballast flora, use the switches under the navi-terminal to pump out water, then use the levers to power off the corresponding pump. • The lever on top of the reactor can set the output power of the reactor to max. This can be used to intentionally overload the power grid to reach higher speed. • During overloading, the red cable running from the engine to the junction-box can be detached temporarily. This causes all the highest overloading ratio to the engine alone and no junction-box can be damaged. JustWork Shipyard, 2023
