Back To School (Chapter 2) – onward to the railroad station

About 745,000 players have subscribed to this second part of the seven-chapter "Back To School" campaign. Chapter 2 – Railroad Station – takes survivors from Chapter 1's mines through narrow streets and warehouses to a military-blocked safe house inside an old tunnel. Like its predecessor, this part adds six new maps for campaign and versus, ten panic events, a non-linear finale, and additional models, textures and voice acting.

The same rule applies here: this map only works alongside the other chapters from the shared Workshop collection. As a campaign, the full set needs installing on your L4D2 server and on every client.

Tip: After every deploy, double-check that all seven "Back To School" parts are active on your server — one missing chapter breaks the campaign mid-session.

Plan the rollout and operation

Chapter 2 continues the route from the first part and should be tested with that exact predecessor release. Start all six maps and verify safe-room transitions, panic events, and the tunnel ending with several clients. Avoid complete bundles that contain the same chapters again. For an event night, have players download both separate Workshop entries beforehand so the lobby does not fail on mismatched files.

Place the Workshop entry in a curated server collection and record whether it replaces a map, model, texture, animation, or dependency. Fully reload the server and test clients before an event, start affected maps directly, and inspect the console for missing materials, particles, or models. A smoke test covers lobby joining, map transitions, the core feature, and reconnecting with several players. Do not enable several add-ons that replace the same files; the Source engine often resolves those conflicts only through load order. Add packages one at a time and preserve the last working collection list. Check campaigns and libraries for dependencies before removal, while purely client-side textures can be disabled without save risk. This keeps server, Workshop-download, and local override failures distinguishable. Also record whether every player needs each entry or it is merely a local recommendation, so the collection and support guide set the same expectation.
