Frequently asked questions
How much RAM does an American Truck Simulator server need?
The ATS dedicated server is frugal: it uses around 200 MB at start and grows to 1-2 GB with traffic and players. 2 GB RAM is enough for 1-4 players; for a full round of 8 players we recommend 4 GB RAM.
How many players fit into one session?
SCS allows a maximum of 8 players per convoy session (max_players). You set the number in the panel; smaller values are possible at any time.
How do my friends connect to the server?
In the game, open Convoy, search sessions and look for your server name — the server is listed as a public session, password-protected if you set one. Alternatively use Direct search with the server ID, which stays the same thanks to the Steam logon token. Important: every player needs the same game version and the same DLCs as the server.
Can I drive DLC states like Nevada, Arizona or Texas?
Yes. The server starts with the base-game setup. For DLC states or mods, open the in-game console, type export_server_packages and upload the generated files server_packages.sii and server_packages.dat from your Documents folder via the file manager into .local/share/American Truck Simulator on the server. After a restart the server runs with your DLC setup — every passenger needs the same DLCs.
How do I get started after ordering?
Your American Truck Simulator server is ready to play in about 2 to 4 minutes. In the panel you set the server name, player count and optionally a password, a description and a welcome message. Auto-update keeps the server on the current Steam build.
How do I back up my settings?
The server configuration lives in .local/share/American Truck Simulator (server_config.sii, server_packages.sii and .dat) and can be downloaded via the file manager. In ATS every player keeps their save game locally in their profile — the server only hosts the session. Scheduled backups additionally protect the server files.
Do I get my own subdomain?
Yes. Every server includes a subdomain like my-server.game-serverhosting.com, and you can change it anytime in the dashboard.
What are the free extras?
Every server can enable free add-ons such as Uptime Kuma, Sinusbot, Game Server Watcher, and more with one click in the dashboard.
How quickly is my server online?
Typical initial setup: about 5 minutes. Queues or large installations can take longer.
Is there a minimum contract term?
There is no long-term minimum. Billing is a monthly subscription and automatic renewal can be disabled. Longer terms may qualify for discounts.
Are the servers located in Germany?
You choose the location at checkout: Germany (Falkenstein and Limburg) or France (Roubaix) — all in the EU, connected to the major European exchanges. Low pings for players across Germany, Austria and Switzerland at both locations, and solid latency for the rest of Europe.
Which provider is best for my server?
The best provider is the one that shows you what you get before you pay: RAM, slots, location, price and cancellation terms. Here the price and resources are visible in the configurator before checkout, there is no minimum term and setup is automated — feel free to compare that with other offers.
Should I host the server myself or rent one?
Self-hosting costs power, time and a machine that runs around the clock; port forwarding, updates and backups are on you. A rented server is online within minutes, keeps running when your PC is off, and updates and backups are included; the network protection that applies to your server is shown in the configurator before you order. For one or two friends on a single evening self-hosting is often fine — for a persistent world, renting pays off.
