Frequently asked questions

How much RAM does a SCUM server need?
The SCUM dedicated server loads the entire island on start and uses around 10 GB RAM even without players. That is why our plans start at 12 GB. We recommend 16 GB for 16 to 32 players and 24 GB for full rounds of up to 64 players.
How do my friends connect to the server?
In the game, open Multiplayer and search for the server name, or add the server to your Steam server browser favourites (IP and query port are shown in the panel). With a password set, only your crew can join.
Can I switch between PvE and PvP?
Yes. The playstyle (PVE or PVP) is a server setting in the panel and takes effect on the next restart. Further rules such as loot amounts, zombie density or vehicle limits live in ServerSettings.ini, which you edit via the file manager.
How do I get started after ordering?
The Windows build runs under Wine on our nodes; the first installation downloads around 15 GB and takes 10 to 15 minutes. Then set server name, description, password and playstyle in the panel — the server restarts automatically and is ready to play.
How do I back up my save?
SCUM stores everything in the database SCUM/Saved/SaveFiles/SCUM.db. Scheduled backups save it automatically; via the file manager you can also download it or roll back to an earlier state.
How do I become admin on my server?
Add your Steam64 ID to SCUM/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/AdminUsers.ini and restart the server. In the game you then have admin commands such as #Teleport, #SpawnItem or #SetWeather.
Do I get my own subdomain?
Yes. Every server includes a subdomain like my-server.game-serverhosting.com, and you can change it anytime in the dashboard.
What are the free extras?
Every server can enable free add-ons such as Uptime Kuma, Sinusbot, Game Server Watcher, and more with one click in the dashboard.
How quickly is my server online?
Typical initial setup: about 12 minutes. Queues or large installations can take longer.
Is there a minimum contract term?
There is no long-term minimum. Billing is a monthly subscription and automatic renewal can be disabled. Longer terms may qualify for discounts.
Are the servers located in Germany?
You choose the location at checkout: Germany (Falkenstein and Limburg) or France (Roubaix) — all in the EU, connected to the major European exchanges. Low pings for players across Germany, Austria and Switzerland at both locations, and solid latency for the rest of Europe.
Which provider is best for my server?
The best provider is the one that shows you what you get before you pay: RAM, slots, location, price and cancellation terms. Here the price and resources are visible in the configurator before checkout, there is no minimum term and setup is automated — feel free to compare that with other offers.
Should I host the server myself or rent one?
Self-hosting costs power, time and a machine that runs around the clock; port forwarding, updates and backups are on you. A rented server is online within minutes, keeps running when your PC is off, and updates and backups are included; the network protection that applies to your server is shown in the configurator before you order. For one or two friends on a single evening self-hosting is often fine — for a persistent world, renting pays off.
