Common Sense

Common Sense bundles quality-of-life fixes that feel like they should already be in the base game: prying open doors, windows and vehicles with a crowbar, a gun ammo counter top-left, picking garbage and materials off the ground, attaching flashlights to your toolbelt, making sheets from improvised materials, sanitizing dirty bandages with alcohol, and repairing weapons and tools. It runs on both Build 41 and Build 42, supports multiplayer, and drops into existing saves without issue — no known mod incompatibilities. For your server, the standard entry is enough: Workshop ID 2875848298 and Mod ID BB_CommonSense in WorkshopItems=/Mods=, clients download every mechanic automatically on connect.

Tip: Since this mod touches so many systems, do a quick pass after any server update to confirm prying and repair interactions still work as expected.

Plan the rollout and operation

Common Sense changes many small interactions and should be checked for overlap with other quality-of-life mods. Test crowbars, repairs, ammunition, flashlights, and ground actions with an ordinary player. Decide which mechanics affect the intended difficulty before enabling it in the middle of a season. Although it is intended to work with existing saves, a world copy still protects against unexpected conflicts in a large mod list.

Before changes, back up the save, sandbox configuration, and server INI, and record the Workshop ID, mod ID, game branch, and order. Both lists must contain the same projects in dependency order; a Workshop download alone does not enable the mod. Start a world copy, connect at least two clients, and test the core feature, persistence, death or reconnecting, and a full restart. Review console.txt and the server log for missing files or Lua errors. After Workshop updates, update dependencies together and retain the last working combination. Before removal, clean up additional items, vehicles, clothing, or slots on a copy. When moving between Build 41 and 42, verify every mod individually; a similar name is not proof of compatibility. This protects the live save from incomplete downloads and branch conflicts.
