ARK: Survival Evolved or ARK: Survival Ascended?

ARK: Survival Evolved is the original on Unreal Engine 4 and has the largest mod library: workshop mods are added by mod ID from the Steam Workshop. ARK: Survival Ascended is the remaster on Unreal Engine 5 with Nanite and Lumen; its mods come through CurseForge.

The difference shows in the plan: Survival Evolved is billed by slots and starts with 12 GB RAM, Survival Ascended needs at least 16 GB RAM because of the remaster and is billed by RAM. The official maps are available on both.

If your group keeps playing an existing Survival Evolved save or needs workshop mods, stay with Survival Evolved; if you are starting fresh and want the UE5 visuals, pick Survival Ascended.

Are CurseForge mods supported?
Yes, ARK: Survival Ascended uses CurseForge for mods. You can add thousands of mods by entering CurseForge mod IDs in your server configuration.
Why are the minimum requirements so high?
ASA is a complete Unreal Engine 5 remake using Nanite and Lumen — significantly more resource-intensive than ARK: Survival Evolved. That is why our entry tier starts at 16 GB: enough for one map without mods and a small group; with mods we recommend 24 GB. Player count, on the other hand, costs nothing extra — up to 70 players and every official map are included in every plan.
How do I get started after ordering?
After ordering, your server is provisioned within minutes. Installation takes some time due to the game file size (~25 GB via Proton/SteamCMD). You will be notified once the server is ready.
Can I run an ARK: Survival Ascended cluster with multiple maps?
Yes, ASA supports cluster servers just like ASE. Connect multiple servers via the same Cluster ID — players can transfer characters, dinos, and items between maps via obelisks. For a stable cluster we recommend at least 20 GB RAM per server instance. Configure the cluster settings in the startup variables of each individual server.
How many players and which maps are included in the price?
Up to 70 players — that's the official server standard for ARK: Survival Ascended. Every plan offers the same maps: The Island, Scorched Earth, The Center, Aberration, Extinction, Ragnarok, Valguero and Astraeos (Astraeos is a paid map, every player needs the DLC). You only pay for the RAM your server needs; there are no slot tiers and no map exclusions in the entry-level plan. You can adjust the player count yourself in the dashboard at any time.
Do I get my own subdomain?
Yes. Every server includes a subdomain like my-server.gs.game-serverhosting.com, and you can change it anytime in the dashboard.
What are the free extras?
For every server you enable Uptime Kuma (server monitoring) and Game Server Watcher (server status in Discord/Telegram) with one click in the dashboard at no extra cost, plus one bot such as Sinusbot (music bot for Discord/TeamSpeak). Every additional bot costs extra.
How quickly is my server online?
Typical initial setup: about 6 minutes. Queues or large installations can take longer. Setup creates the subdomain and DNS records automatically, and for Minecraft also accepts the EULA and installs Geyser.
Is there a minimum contract term?
There is no long-term minimum. Billing is a monthly subscription and automatic renewal can be disabled. Longer terms may qualify for discounts.
Are the servers located in Germany?
You choose the location at checkout: Germany (Falkenstein and Limburg) or France (Roubaix) — all in the EU, connected to the major European exchanges. Low pings for players across Germany, Austria and Switzerland at both locations, and solid latency for the rest of Europe.
Which provider is best for my server?
The best provider is the one that shows you what you get before you pay: RAM, slots, location, price and cancellation terms. ARK: Survival Ascended starts here at 18.40 EUR per month, and setup typically takes about 6 minutes.
Should I host the server myself or rent one?
Self-hosting costs power, time and a machine that runs around the clock; port forwarding, updates and backups are on you. A rented server is online within minutes, keeps running when your PC is off, and updates and backups are included; data-center DDoS protection is included at every location. For one or two friends on a single evening self-hosting is often fine — for a persistent world, renting pays off.
Can I increase or decrease the RAM later?
Yes, you can do it yourself in the customer area using a slider. An upgrade takes effect immediately: you only pay the prorated difference for the remaining term, and the new price applies from the next renewal. A downgrade takes effect on the next renewal date. Your world, settings and subdomain are kept, and depending on the game, a restart is required afterwards. With monthly payment and a minimum term, the change is only possible once that term has ended, and for games with a slot-based plan it is not available.
