Satisfactory mods for dedicated servers
Satisfactory server mods can add building tools, logistics features and quality-of-life changes to a multiplayer world. Compatibility has three separate parts: the game version, dedicated-server support and whether the mod belongs on the server, every client or both.
Check before installing
- Match the mod release to the exact Satisfactory game version in use.
- On the mod page, verify a checkmark for your dedicated-server platform.
- Install every required library and dependency in a compatible version.
- Read the mod scope; do not assume that every mod belongs on both targets.
Safe install and update workflow
- 1.Back up the world and export the working mod profile before changing it.
- 2.Stop the server; running processes can keep mod files locked.
- 3.Check the game version, server support, dependencies and mod scope.
- 4.Update the server and all required client profiles to matching versions.
- 5.Restart, review the log and test one client before reopening the server.
Server-side, client-side or both?
Use the classification on the individual mod page. If no side is stated, treat the mod as both-sided and keep its version identical wherever it is installed.
| Mod type | Dedicated server | Player clients | Compatibility rule |
|---|---|---|---|
| Both-sided | Required | Required for every player | Use the same mod and compatible version on both sides. This is the safe default when the page gives no narrower scope. |
| Server-side | Required | Not required | Install it only on the server unless the author documents optional client features. |
| Client-side | Not required | Only for players who want it | Keep it out of the server profile unless the mod page explicitly describes a server component. |
A missing required mod or a version mismatch can block the connection. Compare the active profile, not just the mod names.
What happens after a Satisfactory update?
A game update can temporarily make SML or individual mods incompatible. Do not update only the server or only one client profile: wait for compatible releases, apply the same supported versions to every required target and keep the last working profile available for rollback.
Compatibility rules and the dedicated-server support indicators are documented in the Satisfactory Modding documentation.
Satisfactory server mods FAQ
Can I install Satisfactory mods on a dedicated server?
Yes — server-side mods can add building tools, logistics features and quality-of-life changes to a multiplayer world running on a dedicated server, as long as the mod explicitly supports dedicated-server or multiplayer use.
Do mods have to match the server's Satisfactory version?
Yes. Before installing, verify that the mod supports the exact Satisfactory version running on the server — a version mismatch is one of the most common causes of mods failing to load.
What happens if a mod is missing a dependency?
The mod won't work correctly. Make sure all required libraries and dependencies for a mod are installed alongside it before restarting the server.
Do all players need the mod installed too?
For any mod with client-side components, yes — players need those components installed locally to connect and play, in addition to the server-side installation.
How do I safely change the mod set on a running world?
Back up the world before changing anything, stop the server, install the selected mod with its dependencies, then restart and test with one player first. Keep the previous mod set available so you can roll back quickly if something breaks.
Will Satisfactory mods keep working after a game update?
Not always. A game update can require a compatible SML release and updated mod builds. Check each mod before updating a production world, then update every required server and client profile together.
For the complete procedure, follow the dedicated-server mod installation guide and send every player the SMM client setup guide.
