Checked on September 8, 2026. Iron Gate has announced Valheim 1.0 for September 9, 2026. As of the check date, 1.0 is still an announced release, not yet a verified dedicated server build. The full game brings the Deep North and full crossplay. Existing worlds remain usable; new biomes generate correctly in areas not yet explored. For the fullest experience, the studio still recommends a fresh start.

Verified Status

The official FAQ still states 1 to 10 players. There's no public test branch before the release. Mods aren't officially supported and may break with 1.0. If you keep an old world, leave unexplored areas open for new content. Cheats can affect certain achievements; the exact rules are listed in the FAQ.

Which Version Should You Use?

Keep an existing community world if continuity matters more and there's enough unexplored terrain left. Start a new world if you want to experience the Deep North and the 1.0 progression without legacy baggage. Don't plan an unattended auto-update with unchecked mods for release day.

Safe Update Process

  1. Create a full backup of your world, configuration, and extensions.
  2. Note the current version and check the target version of all loaders, mods, plugins, and clients.
  3. Test the update on a copy first and check the startup log, login, and world loading.
  4. Only switch to production afterward, and keep the previous build plus backup ready for a rollback.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will My Old World Work With Valheim 1.0?

Yes. Unexplored areas can generate new biomes correctly; for the fullest 1.0 experience, Iron Gate still recommends a new world.

Will Mods Work on Release Day?

That's not guaranteed. Mods aren't officially supported and may need adjustments after the update.

Preparing for the Announced Release

Only set the maintenance window once the server files are actually available. Back up your world files and mod configurations together beforehand and test the rollback path on a copy. After the update, test joining and world loading with the platforms you actually use. The crossplay announcement doesn't replace this test.
