In order to add surface content to the caves, you need to do two things: 1) you need to add certain prefabs to the worldgen itself, and 2) you need to then add the gameplay mechanics for items that are not spawned in during worldgen, such as Penguin Colonies, Deerclops and more. So here is a mod just for the gameplay mechanics with zero interventions on the worldgen side: - Bird and Butterfies and Hunts - Frog rain and Lureplants and Penguins Colonies - Deerclops and Bearger - Werepigs and Chess Pieces Would birds spawn in the caves? That's a good question. If light reaches the depths, and if the caves are indeed just extended caverns that you access through sinkholes, birds should spawn, and frog rain too, and butterflies, and everything from the surface.
