How much RAM does an Icarus server need?
Icarus requires at least 8 GB RAM. For larger sessions with multiple players or active Prospects we recommend 16 GB RAM. The game is a Windows build running under Wine — memory usage is higher than native Linux servers.
How many players can join an Icarus server?
Icarus supports up to 8 players per session/Prospect. The game is designed around sessions — players can run different Prospects simultaneously. For stable sessions we recommend 8 GB RAM.
How long does installation take?
Initial installation of an Icarus server takes ~15–25 minutes (Windows build via SteamCMD). After the first start the server runs quickly. Please allow some patience for the first startup.
Does Icarus run under Wine?
Yes, Icarus runs under Wine (wine_latest image with vcrun2022 corefonts). Wine translates Windows system calls directly — the server behaves like a native Windows server. WINETRICKS_RUN=vcrun2022 corefonts is pre-configured.
How do I get started after ordering?
After ordering, your Icarus server installs automatically (~15–25 minutes). Configure server name and session settings in the control panel. Players connect via the official Icarus client. Install mods as .pak files from NexusMods via the file manager — Icarus has no Steam Workshop.
What is the difference between a Prospect and an Outpost in Icarus?
Prospects are time-limited mission worlds where you gather resources, complete objectives, and then return to the orbital station — only items you carry back remain permanently. Outposts are persistent, freely explorable worlds without a time limit, ideal for a building and survival focus. Your own server lets you run multiple Prospects and Outposts in parallel and switch between them at any time.
Is Icarus available for PS5, Xbox, or PS4?
Icarus: Console Edition was released in March 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S — there is no version for PS4 or Xbox One. Important: the Console Edition does not support crossplay with PC. Our Icarus server is the dedicated PC version (Steam) — console players cannot connect to it.
Do I get my own subdomain?
Yes. Every server includes a subdomain like my-server.game-serverhosting.com, and you can change it anytime in the dashboard.
What are the free extras?
Every server can enable free add-ons such as Uptime Kuma, Sinusbot, Game Server Watcher, and more with one click in the dashboard.
How quickly is my server online?
Typical initial setup: about 20 minutes. Queues or large installations can take longer.
Is there a minimum contract term?
There is no long-term minimum. Billing is a monthly subscription and automatic renewal can be disabled. Longer terms may qualify for discounts.
Are the servers located in Germany?
Yes. All game servers run in German data centres (Falkenstein and Limburg) connected to the major German exchanges — low pings for players across Germany, Austria and Switzerland, and solid latency for the rest of Europe.

Should I host the server myself or rent one?

For one or two friends on a single evening self-hosting is often fine — for a persistent world, renting pays off.
