Frequently asked questions
How many players can join an Insurgency: Sandstorm server?
Insurgency: Sandstorm supports up to 28 players on a dedicated server. For competitive matches with 10–14 players, 4 GB RAM is sufficient. For a full 28-player server we recommend 6 GB RAM.
What is the difference between Insurgency 2014 and Insurgency: Sandstorm?
Insurgency: Sandstorm (2018) is the full reboot of the series by New World Interactive. Unreal Engine 4, modernised graphics, new gamemodes (Frontline, Hardcore), a cosmetics system, and active ongoing development. Insurgency 2014 runs on the older Source Engine. Sandstorm is the currently active entry in the series.
Which gamemodes are available in Insurgency: Sandstorm?
Insurgency: Sandstorm offers Push, Frontline, Firefight, Domination, Hardpoint, Skirmish, and Outpost. Cooperative mode against AI is also available. Custom gamemodes via Mod.io are possible.
Are community mods supported?
Yes, Insurgency: Sandstorm uses Mod.io for community mods. Custom maps, skin packs, and gameplay mods can be installed directly from the dashboard. Players must have the same mods activated.
How do I get started after ordering?
Your Insurgency: Sandstorm server is online within 2–5 minutes (SteamCMD installation). Configure server name, map, gamemode, and max players in the control panel. Your server appears automatically in the community browser.
Do I need a Steam account to run the server?
No, the dedicated server installs via anonymous SteamCMD — no Steam account required. Only players need a copy of Insurgency: Sandstorm (AppID 581330) on Steam.
Do I get my own subdomain?
Yes. Every server includes a subdomain like my-server.game-serverhosting.com, and you can change it anytime in the dashboard.
What are the free extras?
Every server can enable free add-ons such as Uptime Kuma, Sinusbot, Game Server Watcher, and more with one click in the dashboard.
How quickly is my server online?
Typical initial setup: about 25 minutes. Queues or large installations can take longer.
Is there a minimum contract term?
There is no long-term minimum. Billing is a monthly subscription and automatic renewal can be disabled. Longer terms may qualify for discounts.
Are the servers located in Germany?
Yes. All game servers run in German data centres (Falkenstein and Limburg) connected to the major German exchanges — low pings for players across Germany, Austria and Switzerland, and solid latency for the rest of Europe.
Which provider is best for my server?
The best provider is the one that shows you what you get before you pay: RAM, slots, location, price and cancellation terms. Here the price and resources are visible in the configurator before checkout, there is no minimum term and setup is automated — feel free to compare that with other offers.
Should I host the server myself or rent one?
Self-hosting costs power, time and a machine that runs around the clock; port forwarding, updates and backups are on you. A rented server is online within minutes, keeps running when your PC is off, and updates, DDoS protection and backups are included. For one or two friends on a single evening self-hosting is often fine — for a persistent world, renting pays off.
