Checked on September 23, 2026. The most recent official CS2 patch is from September 22, 2026. Besides the new 3-vs-3 mode Rush and a new map selection in Premier, Valve has updated the engine code to the current Source 2 state. For community servers, that's the most important point: CounterStrikeSharp 1.0.374 is from September 7 and is older than this patch. The adjustment of the Linux gamedata for build 1.41.8.2 was pending as an open pull request (#1432) at the time of checking; there was no new release yet. You should therefore check servers with plugins especially carefully after the update.

What Changes for Servers on September 22

  • Engine update: Valve has updated the engine code to the latest Source 2 version. Plugin frameworks access internal structures and often need new gamedata after such updates.
  • Grenade limit: ammo_grenade_limit_total now also limits how many grenades a player can buy per round. If you run your own servers with different grenade rules, you should test the buy phase.
  • Map scripting: new entities minimap_volume (custom minimap image within an area), sky_camera_volume and sky_camera_volume_target (location-dependent skybox), point_deathcam_bounds (limits the death cam), and env_shake_volume (camera shake only within an area). Also new: CSRadarPoint, CSObservablePoint, the API method AddTeamMoney, and the callback OnPlayerTeamChanged; SetDialogVariableString now accepts localization strings.
  • Maps: fixes on Ancient (holes in Long A Main Hall, clipping in Jaguar), Cache (gaps and clipping at the blue doors in Mid), Mirage (scaffolding on the balcony at A), and Train (pixel gap in the crates at A).
  • Miscellaneous: A way to bypass a kick ban has been closed. Halftime stats now fully account for the last round.

Rush, Premier, and Client Changes

Rush is a matchmaking mode: two three-player teams fight their way through randomly selected arenas toward the opposing castle. In Premier, teams now pick four maps (Team 1 picks one, Team 2 picks two, Team 1 picks one more), and one of these is played at random. The patch notes don't say whether or how Rush can be recreated on community servers. For clients, there's quiet but slower reloading (hold the button), silent unscoping of sniper rifles, resolution-independent crosshairs with their own settings tab and the new default "Dynamic Quad," clan tags from Steam groups, stickers on the C4, and the music kit "Starjunk 95."

Checking Plugin Servers After the Update

  1. Update the dedicated server and restart it. Check the startup log to see if MetaMod:Source and CounterStrikeSharp load without error messages.
  2. If CounterStrikeSharp doesn't load or the server crashes with plugins, that's most likely due to outdated gamedata. Wait for a CounterStrikeSharp release after 1.0.374 and install it together with the plugins.
  3. If you need the server right away, start it temporarily without plugins. Don't copy gamedata files from unverified sources.
  4. Packages like MatchZy sometimes bundle their own framework version. After every framework update, check which version actually loaded.
  5. Test joining, map changes, the buy phase, and the most important plugin commands with a real client before players return.

Previous Patches at a Glance

On September 9, Valve closed gaps on Cache, fixed a wallbang at B there, and added spawn points. CSPlayerCamera has since been renamed to CustomPlayerCamera, custom_hud_layout received the observable attribute along with state-driven classes, and chat is now encrypted in demo files. The patch from August 24 introduced custom_hud_layout and cs_player_camera; the one from August 19 updated Boulder and Poseidon. Season 5 added Cache to the Active Duty pool and removed Overpass. The official notes mention no switch to 128 tick and no across-the-board performance gain.

Safe Update Process

  1. Back up server.cfg, match configurations, plugin directories, and the current map rotation.
  2. Cleanly stop any running matches, update the dedicated server, and restart it.
  3. Check the build, GSLT login, and startup log. Then load an official map and every workshop map you use.
  4. Test joining, map changes, C4 rules, and plugins with a real client.

Frequently Asked Questions

My plugins stopped loading after September 22. What's going on?

The engine update from September 22 came after the latest CounterStrikeSharp release. Plugin frameworks usually then need adjusted gamedata. Check the startup log, wait for the next CounterStrikeSharp release, and run the server without plugins in the meantime if necessary.

Can I play Rush on my own server?

The patch notes describe Rush as a mode within official matchmaking. They contain no statements about community servers.

Is CS2 now 128 tick?

The official patch notes make no such statement. CS2 works with sub-tick; don't plan your server performance around an unsubstantiated 128-tick promise.

Is a successful server start after the update enough?

No. At minimum, test login, joining, map changes, and the plugins you use. A process can still start even with a faulty add-on configuration.
