Frequently asked questions

How often should Horde Night occur?
The default is every 7 days. You can adjust this in the dashboard — from daily to every 28 days, depending on how challenging you want your server to be.
How much disk space does the server need?
The map requires 2–8 GB depending on size. We provide ample NVMe SSD storage so you never run out of space.
How much RAM does a 7 Days to Die server need?
For a small group of up to 4 players, 8 GB RAM is sufficient. For larger servers with more players and a bigger world, we recommend 12 GB RAM.
Can I install mods?
Yes, 7 Days to Die supports mods. You can upload mods from Nexus Mods via the file manager. Popular overhauls like Darkness Falls and Ravenhearst are community favourites. All players need the same mods to connect.
Can I password-protect the server?
Yes, you can set a server password in the dashboard so only invited players can join.
How do I back up my 7 Days to Die save and restore it?
Manual backups and configurable schedules are available in the dashboard. For an additional local copy, use the file manager to copy the save files from the `Saves` folder. We recommend creating a manual backup before a wipe or major configuration change so you can restore an earlier state without losing progress.
Do I get my own subdomain?
Yes. Every server includes a subdomain like my-server.game-serverhosting.com, and you can change it anytime in the dashboard.
What are the free extras?
Every server can enable free add-ons such as Uptime Kuma, Sinusbot, Game Server Watcher, and more with one click in the dashboard.
How quickly is my server online?
Typical initial setup: about 15 minutes. Queues or large installations can take longer.
Is there a minimum contract term?
There is no long-term minimum. Billing is a monthly subscription and automatic renewal can be disabled. Longer terms may qualify for discounts.
Are the servers located in Germany?
Yes. All game servers run in German data centres (Falkenstein and Limburg) connected to the major German exchanges — low pings for players across Germany, Austria and Switzerland, and solid latency for the rest of Europe.
Which provider is best for my server?
The best provider is the one that shows you what you get before you pay: RAM, slots, location, price and cancellation terms. Here the price and resources are visible in the configurator before checkout, there is no minimum term and setup is automated — feel free to compare that with other offers.
Should I host the server myself or rent one?
Self-hosting costs power, time and a machine that runs around the clock; port forwarding, updates and backups are on you. A rented server is online within minutes, keeps running when your PC is off, and updates, DDoS protection and backups are included. For one or two friends on a single evening self-hosting is often fine — for a persistent world, renting pays off.
