Verified status
“Latest” is the newest published build on a Minecraft branch. “Recommended” is Forge’s more conservative highlighted choice. Maven’s global release field can point at another Minecraft line when maintenance branches publish in parallel. Minecraft 26.x requires Java 25, and mods must match both the Minecraft and Forge line.
Which version should you run?
For a new test environment, 65.1.3 is the current candidate. For an existing production server, 65.1.0 is the safer starting point unless the modpack says otherwise. Do not update solely for a higher build number and never mix 64.x and 65.x artifacts.
Safe update workflow
- Create a complete backup of the world, configuration and extensions.
- Record the current version and verify the target version for every loader, mod, plugin and client.
- Test on a copy first, checking startup logs, login and world loading.
- Only then update production, keeping the previous build and backup ready for rollback.
Frequently asked questions
Is Latest better than Recommended?
Not universally. Latest contains newer changes; Recommended is Forge’s conservative marker. The modpack support statement still decides.
Does Forge 64.1.3 belong to Minecraft 26.2?
No. 64.1.x belongs to the 26.1.2 line, while 65.1.x belongs to Minecraft 26.2.
