Geyser: the bridge between Bedrock and your Java server
Geyser is an open-source protocol bridge built by the GeyserMC project. It translates the Bedrock protocol into the Java protocol in real time, making possible what Mojang itself does not offer: players on mobile, console and Windows Bedrock join your Java server just like everyone else. Together with Floodgate, which lets Bedrock players join without a linked Java account, Geyser is the standard pairing for crossplay.

Why Geyser has to stay current
This is the most important operational note on this page: Bedrock clients update themselves automatically. If your Geyser build is too old for the new client version, connections fail. Outdated Geyser builds are the most common reason why Bedrock players suddenly cannot reach the server after a Bedrock update.
A current Geyser is therefore the simplest insurance against exactly that problem. Feature releases such as 2.11.0 follow on from the previous line — the detailed changes of individual builds are documented by the project in its version overview.
The roles in a crossplay setup

Geyser works server-side and combines with the common Java server variants. Bedrock players need no additional software: add the address and Bedrock port as an external server, done.
Worth knowing: Bedrock players see the Java world through the lens of their client. On vanilla and plugin servers that works excellently. On heavily modified servers (Forge or Fabric with content mods) Bedrock clients cannot render mod-specific content — which is why crossplay plays to its strengths above all on vanilla-style setups.
How to keep your server current
- New servers: every supported Paper server is provisioned automatically with Geyser, Floodgate and a Bedrock port. Crossplay works from the first minute.
- Existing servers: the Geyser file sits in your plugin folder. Using the file manager in the panel you can swap it for the current build from the official download page at any time — take a backup via the Backups tab first, then restart.
- Version changes: if you change the Minecraft version via the version switch in the panel, make sure Geyser is current too. The newest Geyser version supports the current Java and Bedrock levels.
FAQ
Do I also need Floodgate? Yes — and you already have it. Floodgate lets Bedrock players join without a linked Java account and is installed automatically alongside Geyser with us.
Do my Bedrock players have to install anything? No. They simply add your server with its address and Bedrock port as an external server — that is all.
Bedrock players suddenly cannot join — what should I do? First check whether a fresh Bedrock client update has been released, then update the Geyser file to the newest build via the file manager. In the vast majority of cases that resolves it. If it does not, take a look at the server log in the panel console — Geyser reports connection problems there with clear hints.
Does crossplay also work on my modpack server? Technically yes, practically with limits: a Bedrock client cannot render modded content. For modded setups crossplay is therefore no substitute for Java clients.
Do I have to apply every new Geyser version? Not strictly, but it is the cheapest precaution. At the latest when Bedrock players report connection problems, the current build is the first step.
