Rust Shipshape on March 5, 2026

Facepunch released the March 5, 2026 Rust update under the name Shipshape. It focuses on living, building and fighting on the water plus changes to the Deep Sea. Daylight was also extended by about 20 minutes, while the devblog says night remains around ten minutes long.

Boats and the Deep Sea

  • Building blocks on player boats can be rotated or demolished at any time in edit mode.
  • Electricity, industrial and water IO items can be used on boats, with documented exceptions.
  • Sunken player-built boats can be destroyed block by block for exploration and loot recovery.
  • Boat Building Stations on Deep Sea islands allow repairs and modifications at sea.
  • The Deep Sea no longer opens immediately after a server wipe; its spawning, loot and notifications were adjusted. Several of these rules can be configured through new convars.

What server administrators should check

Take a backup before updating. After restart, check the console, world data, player boats and installed extensions. Change Deep Sea convars deliberately, document settings that differ from the defaults, and base capacity decisions on your own measurements.
