Frequently asked questions

Can I install Don't Starve Together mods?
Yes, Steam Workshop mods are fully supported. Enter Workshop IDs in the mod configuration — the server downloads them automatically on startup. Players need the same mods locally (DST installs them automatically on connect).
How many players can join the server?
Don't Starve Together starts with 6 players by default on our servers, but the max_players variable lets you configure up to 64 players directly — that's a native in-game limit (Klei forums: `max_players = 1 .. 64`), no mod required. Actual performance still depends heavily on world size and installed mods.
Are Caves supported on the server?
Yes, you can enable a second Caves shard. Players travel between the surface and caves via cave entrances. The Caves shard runs as its own process — for Caves we recommend at least 2 GB extra RAM.
What are Seasons and can I configure them?
Yes! You can freely set the length of the four seasons (Autumn, Winter, Spring, Summer) in the world generation settings. Monster spawn rates, resource rates, and world size are also configurable.
Are DST updates applied automatically?
Yes, our server checks for updates on startup and installs them automatically. Klei Entertainment releases regular patches and seasonal events — your server stays up to date without manual intervention.
Can I upload an existing Don't Starve Together world?
Yes. Your saved world is stored locally in `Documents/Klei/DoNotStarveTogether/`. You can upload the cluster folder via the file manager in the dashboard and continue playing on the server.
Do I get my own subdomain?
Yes. Every server includes a subdomain like my-server.game-serverhosting.com, and you can change it anytime in the dashboard.
What are the free extras?
Every server can enable free add-ons such as Uptime Kuma, Sinusbot, Game Server Watcher, and more with one click in the dashboard.
How quickly is my server online?
Typical initial setup: about 3 minutes. Queues or large installations can take longer.
Is there a minimum contract term?
There is no long-term minimum. Billing is a monthly subscription and automatic renewal can be disabled. Longer terms may qualify for discounts.
Are the servers located in Germany?
Yes. All game servers run in German data centres (Falkenstein and Limburg) connected to the major German exchanges — low pings for players across Germany, Austria and Switzerland, and solid latency for the rest of Europe.
Which provider is best for my server?
The best provider is the one that shows you what you get before you pay: RAM, slots, location, price and cancellation terms. Here the price and resources are visible in the configurator before checkout, there is no minimum term and setup is automated — feel free to compare that with other offers.
Should I host the server myself or rent one?
Self-hosting costs power, time and a machine that runs around the clock; port forwarding, updates and backups are on you. A rented server is online within minutes, keeps running when your PC is off, and updates, DDoS protection and backups are included. For one or two friends on a single evening self-hosting is often fine — for a persistent world, renting pays off.
