Palworld crossplay has worked since v0.5.0 from March 19, 2025 between Steam, Xbox Series X|S, Game Pass for PC, PlayStation 5, and Mac. The decisive factor is no longer the platform, but that the server and clients use the same game version and that the connection details are entered correctly.
What Palworld crossplay supports since v0.5.0
Pocketpair released the crossplay update v0.5.0 on March 19, 2025. The official update notes on Steam state that cross-play is available across all platforms: documentation at steamcommunity.com. For practical server setup, this means: players on Steam, Xbox Series X|S, Game Pass for PC, PlayStation 5, and Mac can play together on the same dedicated Palworld server.
A Nintendo Switch version is not available in the baseline state of this guide and is therefore not listed here as a supported platform. Likewise, you should not equate crossplay with cross-save: this guide covers joining a server together, not transferring local saves between platforms.
Supported platforms at a glance
| Platform | Crossplay on a dedicated server |
|---|---|
| Steam (PC) | Yes, since v0.5.0 |
| Xbox Series X | S |
| Game Pass for PC | Yes, since v0.5.0 |
| PlayStation 5 | Yes, since v0.5.0 |
| Mac | Yes, since v0.5.0 |
| Nintendo Switch | No supported version in the baseline state |
The earlier restriction that Xbox players could not join dedicated servers like PC players is no longer the central obstacle with v0.5.0. If joining fails today, the cause is usually the version, address, port, password, visibility, or a client that has not yet been fully updated.
Requirements before inviting players
For a clean crossplay session, you first need a running Palworld server. At game-serverhosting, you use paid multi-game hosting with technical control over the server data, a traceable dashboard status, and support if you get stuck during setup or operation.

Select Palworld as the game in the order wizard and set up the desired number of players. If you are just getting started, the guide Rent and Set Up a Palworld Server helps with the basic configuration. For later fine-tuning of world and server parameters, Optimize Palworld Server Settings is the right companion.
Set up the crossplay server
1. Start the server and wait for the status
Start the Palworld server in the dashboard and wait until it is shown as ready. Only share the connection details once the server has fully started. Trying to join too early can easily lead to misinterpretations because players then suspect a crossplay problem, even though the service is simply not reachable yet.

2. Share IP, port, and password
As soon as the server is ready, you will find the address and port in the dashboard. Share this data exactly. If a password is set, it must also arrive unchanged for all players. Pay particular attention to transposed digits in the port and to spaces that can appear when copying from chats.
3. Match game versions
Version parity is the most important technical point. Server and clients must use the same Palworld version. Example: if the server is running on 0.5.1, but an Xbox client is still on 0.5.0, joining may fail even though crossplay is supported in principle.
Updates do not appear on every platform at exactly the same local moment for the player. Downloads can pause, consoles can cache old installation states, and a client may not have updated in the background yet. Have affected players close the game completely, check platform updates, and restart the console or PC if needed.
4. Decide on community server visibility
If all platforms should be able to find the server in the public Palworld community browser, activate the COMMUNITY_SERVER toggle in the panel wizard. Without this toggle, the server does not automatically become publicly discoverable and is used via direct IP and port instead.
This is not a quality decision, but an operating decision: public visibility makes finding the server easier, while direct connection gives you more control over who receives the details. If you want to set server name, password, and player count cleanly, use the guide Configure Palworld Server Settings.
Check the result
Do not test the server only with a Steam client. Ask at least one player from each platform you actually use to join the server. Check these points:
- Is the same Palworld version displayed?
- Do the IP address and port match exactly?
- Is the password correct?
- Is the server already marked as ready?
- Should the server be publicly visible, or is it connected directly?
If all players can join, crossplay is set up correctly. For larger groups, you should also monitor load. You will find notes on memory and performance in Palworld Server Performance and RAM.
Troubleshooting
Connection failed despite the right platform
First check the versions. Crossplay removes the platform boundary, but it does not replace the requirement for matching versions. Update the server and clients, then restart the game or device.
The server does not appear in the community browser
Check whether COMMUNITY_SERVER is activated. If the toggle is disabled, use direct connection by IP and port. Also wait briefly after a restart before testing the search again.
One player gets in, another does not
Compare both players' details character by character: IP, port, password, and game version. If only one platform is affected, the local client is often not yet on the expected update state.
The password is rejected
Set the password again in the panel and avoid special characters during testing that are easy to enter incorrectly on consoles or different keyboard layouts. Then share the new password freshly with all players.
Checks, limits, and a safe rollback path
The guide “Palworld Crossplay: Connect Steam, Xbox, PS5, and Mac” applies to the server type described in the article and the version state visible at the time of review. Menu names, available versions, mod or plugin compatibility, and required resources may differ after updates. Therefore, do not transfer values to another game, loader, or server version without checking them.
Before making changes to the world, savegame, configuration, or extensions, create a backup of the affected files. Then change only one related step and test it with the same client and server version you want to play with later.
| Checkpoint | Expected result | Abort and rollback |
|---|---|---|
| Server start | The server reaches the ready state without new error messages. | If startup errors occur, undo the change and restore the latest backup. |
| Connection test | A test account can connect using the address shown in the panel. | If version or connection errors occur, compare version, port, and firewall/opening settings again. |
| Function test | The specifically changed function works without damaging existing world or game data. | If side effects occur, stop the server and restore the backed-up files. |
A successful single test is not a guarantee of performance or availability. World size, mods, plugins, player count, network path, and simultaneous load can change the result. Document the version, change, and test result so you can trace later differences.
FAQ
Does Palworld have crossplay between Steam and Xbox?
Yes. Since v0.5.0 from March 19, 2025, Steam and Xbox players can play together on a dedicated server, provided the server and clients use the same version.
Can PS5 players play on the same server as PC players?
Yes. PlayStation 5 has been one of the supported platforms for playing together with PC players since the crossplay update.
Does Palworld crossplay also work with Mac?
Yes. Whether macOS is supported must be checked against the current manufacturer platform list. The v0.5.0 update notes also listed Mac support for dedicated servers.
Do I have to activate crossplay separately on the server?
Whether crossplay requires an additional server option must be checked against the current version state. What matters is an up-to-date server, identical game versions, and correct connection details. COMMUNITY_SERVER affects public visibility, not the basic crossplay capability.
Why does joining fail after an update?
Most of the time, the server and client are not running the same version. Update both sides, close the game completely, and restart the device on consoles if needed.
Is there Palworld crossplay with Nintendo Switch?
No. In the baseline state of this guide, there is no supported Nintendo Switch version, so Switch is not listed here as a crossplay platform.
