What is Cobblemon Optimised?

Cobblemon Optimised is a Fabric modpack with more than 30,000 downloads on Modrinth. It skips extra content and bundles Cobblemon 1.8.1 with performance mods: only 17 mod files run on the server, among them Lithium and FerriteCore; the other 26 are client-only mods such as Sodium, Iris, Xaero's Minimap and Roughly Enough Items.

In game you get the complete Cobblemon experience: Pokémon spawn in fitting biomes, you catch them with Poké Balls, train your team and fight turn-based battles against wild Pokémon or your friends. Pokédex, riding, berry farming and pastures are included in Cobblemon 1.8.1.

The difference to the official Cobblemon modpack is the scope: no additional world or structure mods, but a small mods folder, faster starts and less RAM. That is why the pack fits our 4 GB tier and stays easy to manage if you want to add your own mods later.

On your own server the world belongs to you: you set spawn rates, shiny chance and battle ranges yourself in the Cobblemon configuration, players join with the matching pack version, and nobody resets your world.

We install version 1.8.1c with Fabric Loader 0.19.5 on Minecraft 1.21.1. The pack is boot-verified on our infrastructure; the order dialog below already has the pack, loader and 4 GB RAM preselected.

Tested technical baseline

Cobblemon Optimised is available as a launchable server configuration with fabric on Minecraft 1.21.1.

Recommended setup

We recommend at least 4 GB RAM on Minecraft 1.21.1. The lean mod set keeps the idle footprint small; many simultaneously loaded Pokémon are the main load, which you control through the spawn density.

Which settings does Cobblemon Optimised ship with?

Cobblemon Optimised 1.8.1c ships neither its own server.properties nor server configurations in the pack file (the mrpack overrides contain client defaults only, read on 20 October 2026). The Cobblemon file is created on the first server start; the defaults below come from the Cobblemon 1.8.1 source code.

File Key Value in the pack Effect
config/cobblemon/main.json pokemonPerChunk 1.0 Upper limit of the Pokémon density around each player; the biggest lever for load and game feel. Raising it takes effect after a reload, lowering it only after reconnecting or a restart.
config/cobblemon/main.json shinyRate 8192 Shiny chance of 1 in 8192 for every Pokémon created, including those from commands; 0 disables shinies.
config/cobblemon/main.json spawningZoneDiameter / spawningZoneHeight 8 / 16 Size of the spawn zone around the player in blocks; larger zones spread Pokémon further but cost more compute per spawn attempt.
config/cobblemon/main.json despawnerNearDistance / despawnerFarDistance / despawnerMaxAgeTicks 32 / 96 / 3600 Wild Pokémon closer than 32 blocks never despawn, beyond 96 blocks they despawn once old enough, and after three minutes at most at medium distance.
config/cobblemon/main.json battleWildMaxDistance / battlePvPMaxDistance / battleSpectateMaxDistance 12 / 32 / 64 Ranges in blocks to start a wild battle, challenge another player or spectate a battle.
config/cobblemon/main.json exportSpawnConfig false Set to true, Cobblemon creates config/cobblemon/spawning/best-spawner-config.json where you adjust the weights of the rarity groups. Needs a restart.
server.properties view-distance / difficulty / allow-flight Minecraft default The file comes from us: 10 chunks view distance, difficulty easy, flying off. Anyone riding flying Pokémon needs allow-flight set to true, otherwise the server kicks the player.

You will find all files in the panel's file manager. Create a backup before a change, stop the server, save the file and start it again. A syntax error in main.json silently resets Cobblemon to default values; check your values after the start.

Frequently asked questions

Does the button use the matching configuration?

Yes. The wizard preselects the matching loader; modpack pages also load only the verified featured pack.

Can I change version and RAM later?

Yes. Always check compatibility and create a backup before changing versions.

Do my friends need the modpack on their own PC?

Yes. Every player installs Cobblemon Optimised 1.8.1c through the Modrinth app or a launcher with Modrinth support and joins with the server address from the panel.

What is the difference to the official Cobblemon modpack?

Both contain Cobblemon 1.8.1. The official pack adds world, structure and comfort mods and needs more RAM; Cobblemon Optimised limits itself to Cobblemon and performance mods.

Can I change the Pokémon spawn rate?

Yes. After the first start, config/cobblemon/main.json is on the server; there you set pokemonPerChunk and shinyRate, among others. The settings table below lists the most important values.

Is 4 GB RAM enough?

Yes, for 2 to 4 players. With many players or a high spawn density you can raise the RAM in the panel at any time — without reinstalling.
